MG3620 - Error lights after changing ink

Puckettl

Dear Community,

My Office printer is not working right. When I ran out of ink I put a new cartridge in. It flashes orange multiple times on the alarm and color button. Im not sure how I can fix this. I have tried SEVERAL times to take the cartridge out and add it back in. I've also tried to turn it off, unplug it, etc.

Any/all help is helpful. This is a Canon Pixma MG3620 multi-use printer.

Thank you,

Landen Puckett

Hi Puckettl,

Please watch the error light.  The light will eventually pause.  After the pause, please count the number of blinks until the next pause.

How many times does the error light blink?
Is the power light blinking as well?

Also, please open the cover to your printer.

What is all of the text that appears on the label of the color ink cartridge?
What is all of the test that appears on the label of the black ink cartridge?

Hi!
Thanks for your response. Color is 241XL, and Black is 240XL.

Additionally, there was 5 flashes.

Hi,

This error means the ink is not being detected correctly. I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.

If the alarm lights are still blinking, please try holding down the stop button on the printer for 5 seconds and then let go.

Hello

Following this thread & performed each step.  Alarm & CL still blinking 5 then pause.  Help! Please

Hi BOGOF45,

When the power light is steady and the error light blinks 5 times, this is caused by one or both of the ink cartridges:

MG3600 series > Troubleshooting > Errors and Messages

The PIXMA MG3620 must have one color and one black cartridge installed.

The PIXMA MG3620 will show the 5 blink error code if you attempt to use the printer with only one ink cartridge installed.  Both ink cartridges must be inserted into the PIXMA MG3620.  It cannot be used with just one.

The PIXMA MG3620 is compatible with the following ink cartridges:

PG-240
PG-240XL
PG-240XXL

CL-241
CL-214XL

Please make sure there is no orange tape on the bottom of either ink cartridge:

I am having the exact same issues and I have followed all the steps. Did you ever find a solution or did you end up getting a new printer?

No. No “solution” or response worked. I had to get a new printer.

My hypothesis is that the cartridge was damaged- and was causing that blinking issue. I encourage you to try looking into that!

Interesting… it does not appear to be damaged, but I suspect you are probably correct. It must be one of those new little contact points. I appreciate your prompt reply.
