This stupid printer has been stuck in Download Mode and nothing has been able to get it back and running. I have a Mac on Sonoma 14.6.1, but my mom bought this and she only has an iPad. I have it plugged in using a USB. I've tried unplugging it, pressing the STOP button while plugging it back in. I've downloaded drivers to my computer but can't connect to the stupid printer. I've trie holding the STOP button. I've tried holding the Power button. I've tried cursing at it. From the Canon website, I tried downloading the firmware but it asks for a serial number and when I type in the number that is on the back label I just get an error msg telling me it's the wrong number. It's 2026, why is this so hard? I want to go full Office Space on this thing so badly. I just want to help my mom be able to print from her iPad but I can't even get out of this Download mode.

If you are encountering issues with the serial number of your Canon imageCLASS MF269dw II, here are the steps to verify it:
On the Control Panel:
Using Remote UI:
Incorrect Entry: Ensure that you are entering the serial number correctly, as it is case-sensitive and may include both letters and numbers.
Location Confusion: The serial number may also be printed on a label on the back or bottom of the printer. Check these physical locations if the control panel does not display it.
By following these steps, you should be able to accurately identify and verify the serial number for your Canon imageCLASS MF269dw II.

How do I check the Remote UI? I have no access to the printer display, it's stuck on Download Mode. I've done the unplug and plug back in thing multiple times.

After researching it, I am not sure you can, but you do it by using a browser, the printers ip address and logon to it. Do you know its ip address? It can be retrieved from the control panel as you can the serial number but not stuck in download mode. You could try installing the Mac Driver and software for it, skipping the firmware update and just maybe you can connect to it. The drivers are here, the page should sense your OS system.

I've already downloaded the drivers and my Mac sees the printer but nothing changes on the printer as the display always shows Download mode. I don't know what you mean by this sentence: "It can be retrieved from the control panel as you can the serial number but not stuck in download mode."
I don't understand how it appears to be impossible to reset this thing. Even the most basic electrical device has a little button to reset it.

I was referring to the printer's menu display which has a reset command but it seems your display is stuck is it not?

Correct. This is all I see. I press STOP, the screen goes blank for a couple seconds and then the same msg pops up again.

I think your printer has had a firmware failure, if a long power off does not fix it, I am afraid based on my long experience as a computer tech , its is not self repairable. What do you use the printer for? It is a bit much for home printing, and a good new color inkjet all in one printer can be had for far less than a repair for this laser printer. I suggest you consider replacing it with something compatible with your Ipad and your Mac. I am very picky when it comes to both computers and printers and If I may I suggest the Canon Pixma TS3720 available on Amazon for 51 dollars all inclusive. It prints up to 8x10 borderless photos and it is an all in one of course.

Greetings ,
Let's have you try a couple of more things.
If your printer was connected wirelessly, you can log into the admin portal of your router and review the list of attached devices. If the printer is connected to your network, it will display with its name and the IP address assigned by the router.
If you enter the IP address into the address bar of a browser, you might be able to see the printers web server/ remote UI. If you're able to see the remote UI log in, let us know and we can provide more about how to log in.
Since the device is stuck in download mode, it's possible that the remote UI will not be available. However, it won't hurt to try.
The printer serial number should be on a sticker on the back or bottom of the device. If you have that, I would try connecting the printer to my Mac using a USB cable and then running the firmware update utility. If the utility is not accepting the full serial number, try using the first 10 digits from left to right or just the last 10 digits of the S/N.
Also, I have seen instances where the DNS settings used by some internet service providers do not allow a printer to connect to the Canon download servers for firmware updates. Try substituting one of your settings with Google 8.8.8.8 or cloudflare. 1.1.1.1 after you make this change, you'll need to restart your modem and router and restart the printer. Normally performing these types of actions is not necessary but right now your printer is stuck trying to download firmware.

This is the back of the printer. Please tell me what the serial number is. When trying to run the firmware utility it kept saying I entered the wrong serial number. You just said enter the first 10 digits, I don't even see a 10-digit number.
