Ink bleed on Canon IX6850

Hi,

I've only recently noticed this issue when printing onto matt or plain paper. If I print small narrow text or a picture, some areas where the blacks are close to each other they bleed into each other. For example if I write a very thin small letter 'O', the inner part of the letter is completely black with no hole so just looks like a circle.

The paper I use is one of the highest grades of specialist inkjet matt printing paper from a reputable company in the UK and it used to print fine. Its also a newly new printer. I tried different settings and for some reason if setting to gloss paper it prints out perfectly with no issues.

Can anyone give any advice as to what the problem could be and why gloss setting works perfectly but matt setting doesnt. In past the matt paper setting used to be fine on this particular paper. I installed a new black ink cartridge but the problem hasn't resolved so I'm stuck with just using the gloss setting. Would gloss have any impact on colour alteration?

Any help appreciated.
