IX6550 install problem

canonprinter
Apprentice

I am having trouble installing an IX6550 printer. The PC is running Windows XP. The installation proceeds as far as connecting the USB cable and turning on the printer. I get a message box saying 'Found new hardware Canon IX6550 series'. It then starts to copy files but then another box comes up saying -

Found new hardware wizard

There was a problem installing this hardware

An error occurred during the installof this device

Access denied

Has anyone experienced this. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi canonprinter,

You mentioned that there was an error about access being denied.  Please ensure that you are logged in as an Administrative priviledged account or the printer will not be able to be installed correctly.

The PIXMA iX6550 is a UK model which is similar to the US equivalent PIXMA iX6520.  I will be providing instructions to reinstall your PIXMA iX6550 which are from instructions we have for a PIXMA iX6520.  Please perform the following to uninstall:

1.  Click Start, Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.

2.  Click on the PIXMA iX6550 Drivers, then click Change/Remove.

3.  Follow the onscreen instructions to remove.

4.  Disconnect the USB cable if connected.

We can then reinstall the drivers.  To reinstall, please place the disc inside of your computer, then follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall.
