I have tried using your links for downloading a driver for my MP280 printer. Neither are working.

Nothing seems to be working.  Tired of unplugging and plugging back in to no avail.  Downloads just are not working.  Can't afford to buy another printer when I know this one is ok, just needs a updated driver that works.

Welcome to the forum!

While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, the PIXMA MP280 has been retired. That means we no longer offer support for the printer or updated drivers.

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you locate an updated replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Meaning I have to buy another printer, right?  Why would Canon do this?  This one was still working until now.  Guess I will be looking at other companies for my next printer.  Very upset.

Greetings,

Your printer is 9 yrs old and still supported under Windows / MAC OS.

Windows 7, 8, 10, 11

MAC 10.13, 10.14, 10.15, 11, 12 and 13 Ventura

What OS are you running?  Just about everything is covered.

If you are running MAC OS 14 Sonoma (released 3 weeks ago), please try the Ventura drivers

The MP280 was released in:

Europe:

PIXMA MP280 - Support - Download drivers, software and manuals - Canon Europe (canon-europe.com)

And the United States:

Canon Support for PIXMA MP280 | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Hope this helps

The second link you posted clearly states in red that canon does not support mp280 any longer.  The first link you posted I have tried the first 2 links and neither will work.  Says computer is offline and can't connect to a network.  I have tried numerous times to no avail.

Greetings,

Very sorry you are having so much difficulty with this.

It's important to understand what retired means. Even thought a product is retired, it does not mean you cannot continue using it it under a supported OS.  You can.

Retired means the device will not receive further driver support and that it cannot be repaired.  This is due largely to parts availability. it does not mean it will stop working with a previously supported OS.

If you are running one of the supported operating system referenced above, then Canon has drivers which you can download.

The error you referenced indicates a problem or connection issue with your computer.  You'll need to solve this.

Since the MP 280 was released in two countries I provided links to the European and US support portals.  Use the one which is correct for your region. Select downloads and use the menus to select the operating system you are using the printer with.

The drivers rely on the connectivity of your computer and printer to your network.  This issue will need to be resolved in order for the drivers to install.  If you're not able to resolve this issue on your own, you can contact Canon or a computer professional for assistance.

Know however, that Canon still provides drivers for your printer.

First of all, thanks for the lengthy reply and understanding of what is going on.  I have no idea about networks.  Didn't even know my printer was connected to one.  The printer stopped working several times before this and I "somehow" managed to get it going again, but not this time.  I looked into the security section and there was a "unknown" in there that had control of my printer along with myself being in control.  I removed the "unknown" link, but still did nothing to help the printer.  How do I go about connecting my printer to a network?  Right now the printer says it is in queue, but I have zero documents in there.  Found something else that said error 5.  This is way above my paygrade.  Thanks anyway, Shadow!
