PIXMA TR4722 stays on fax and will not let me print my documents

I have a brand new TR4722 that stays on fax and will NOT let me print my documents.  I have lesson plans to do for tutoring, and this is very frustrating. I wish I had gotten HP if this is going to be the case from now on.
At least my HP printed. I cannot even get this machine to print anything without going through hell and high water.

What is it connected to a Windows PC, MAC, a phone? What operating system? How  is the printer connected? A printer cable is a very good thing to use, makes setup much easier, even if you go wireless at some point.  As a former computer/telephone communications business owner and active photographer,  I  have owned many printers over the years, OKI, HP, both laser and inkjet, Brother, and now I have two Canon printers and quite pleased with both of them They are  connected to my Windows pc and shared across my home network to other devices all of which can print just fine.

I feel confident that with more knowledge about your equipment, we can help.

These are steps that should fix your problem:

If your brand-new Canon PIXMA TR4722 is stuck in fax mode, the problem is almost certainly a computer driver or setting issue, rather than a hardware malfunction. When installing this printer, computers frequently install a duplicate driver called "Canon TR4700 series FAX" and set it as the default. When you try to print, your computer routes the document to this fax queue instead of the regular printer queue, stalling the process.

Follow these steps to shift the printer back to standard printing.

1. Select the Correct Printer on Your Computer

The quickest fix is to ensure you are targeting the actual printer, not the fax feature, in your document's print menu.

  • Open the document you wish to print and click File > Print.

  • Look at the selected destination in the Printer dropdown box.

  • If it says Canon TR4700 series FAX, click the menu and change it to Canon TR4700 series Printer (look for the name without the word "FAX").

  • Click Print.

2. Set the Real Printer as Your System Default

To prevent this issue from happening every time you print, change your computer's default settings:

For Windows Users:

  1. Press the Windows Key + I to open your settings menu.

  2. Click on Bluetooth & devices and then select Printers & scanners.

  3. Locate the standard Canon TR4700 series (the option without "Fax" in the title).

  4. Click on it and select Set as default.

For Mac Users:

  1. Click the Apple Menu and go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.

  2. Right-click (or Control-click) the standard Canon TR4700 series printer icon.

  3. Select Set default printer.

3. Clear the Machine Panel Manually

If the actual physical screen on your TR4722 is frozen on a fax message and will not respond, perform a manual clear:

  • Press a physical mode button: Press the Copy or Setup button on the physical printer panel to force the internal screen out of the fax menu loop.

  • Perform a power cycle: Unplug the power cable directly from the back of the machine. Leave it disconnected for a full 60 seconds to clear the active memory, then plug it back in.

If you try these steps and the standard printer option is completely missing from your computer's dropdown menu, let me know if you are using Windows or Mac. You will find the drivers and software for your printer here:
