I just bought this MX922. Very disappointed with the quality of the pictures so far. Have tried to troubleshoot....cleaning the ink heads etc. Help!

I have a Mac with operating system OS X Version 10.9.1....does that help?

Which program are you printing the pictures from? If you haven't yet, try using the Canon Easy-Photo Print software. If the same result occurs, please let us know the kind of paper you are using.
