How to Wi-Fi print Canon MG5420 with Mac Catalina 10.15

matetoes

Hello,

I know there's the IJ Scan Utility on Windows, but I can't find any for macOS.

Also, "Scanner Utility" is greyed out when opening the MG5420 printer queue from System Preferences:

Does anyone have any pointers on how I could set up wireless scanning of documents on macOS from an MG5420 printer? Thanks.

Hi matetoes,

The MG5420 has been retired and is not compatible with the Catalina operating system. You can try using the VueScan software that the Hamrick Corporation offers. They do have a free version that you can try out. If you do want to visit their website, the address is www.hamrick.com. If you need support for this software, you can visit www.hamrick.com/support/

Please be advised that you also qualify for the Canon Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST. Let them know you have been working with technical support and that the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

OK, thanks for the quick reply. I will try out VueScan and the Canon Upgrade Program, and if it works out, I'll accept your reply as a solution. 🙂

OK, so VueScan seems to work pretty well; I'll accept it as a solution.

I also called for the Canon Upgrade Program, but the discount was only 10%, and they said that my ink cartridges wouldn't transfer over, so I decided not to buy a new printer since I still have a lot of old cartridges left.

Are there any alternatives to VueScan that are open-source or free? The free edition of VueScan has a watermark covering the entire document that renders the text beneath it hard to read. I don't care if the free one is a clunkier/worse program--just that it works.
