Help! My Pixma MX920 printer won't sync with my MacBook Pro laptop, v. 10.15.7 Catalina! I downloaded and successfully installed the MX920 series scanner Driver v. 19.2.0 (Mac) 3 times today!
As I understand the next step, it's Systems Preferences>Canon MX920 series>add. That opens a window reading "Setting up 'Canon MX920 series...' Finding software" The status bar freezes 1 cm into the process and that's it! I've repeated this process around seven times, even left my laptop on overnight (before finding and installing the v.19.2.0 Mac scanner Driver), and the status bar never moves.
According to the Canon website, the printer and my laptop are compatible.
In desperation, I've gone to the App Store and downloaded 'Air Printer' and 'Print to PDF.' Both of these show up under Systems Preferences>Printers & Scanners, but my MX920 does not. And I can't add the MX920!
I know -- it's old, but I just sunk $200 into Canon replacement inks, purchased a new desktop, and then discovered the desktop and printer are not compatible, but my old laptop is.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Patrick, thank you VERY much! I was finally able to print from my laptop, and it was a wireless job -- for the first time ever.
Your very detailed instructions did the trick. There was only one deviation -- instruction #4 for my laptop advised me that TWO MX920s would appear, but only one did. It was the one "Bonjour Multifunction", but clicking on it got it working!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you

Thanks for joining the conversation, whimoway!
So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using within the PIXMA MX920 series. The model number should appear on the front of the unit at the upper right. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

Hi whimoway,
Are you using your PIXMA MX922 wirelessly?
or are you connecting your MX922 to your Mac using a USB cable?
You stated that you downloaded the scanner driver. Is the issue that you are experiencing only involving the scanning function of your PIXMA MX922? Are you able to print?

I'm using the USB cable, because I never knew that it could be connected wirelessly!
The printer will not connect with my laptop, so it can only be used as a xerox machine to copy documents that I feed into it. It will not print or scan anything from my laptop.

Hi whimoway,
Please try connecting your PIXMA MX922 to your Wi-Fi. To do this, please follow these steps:
1. Press the MENU button on your PIXMA MX922.
2. Repeatedly press the down arrow to select the wrench and screwdriver icon and press OK.
3. Use the left arrow to select Device settings and press OK.
4. Use the down arrow to select LAN settings and press OK.
5. Use the down arrow to select Wireless LAN setup and press OK.
6. If WPS info appears, please press the STOP button 1 time (to select Other setup options).
7. Select Standard setup and press OK.
8. Select your wireless network name from the list that appears and press OK.
9. Press OK to access the on screen keyboard and enter in your wireless network password. Please note that this password is case sensitive and if it is entered incorrectly, your PIXMA MX922 will not connect to your network. To switch between upper case letters, lower case letters and special characters, please use the middle function button below the LCD of your PIXMA MX922.
10. Press the left function button under the word "Done" once the password is entered.
11. Press the left function button under the word "End Setup".
12. Press OK once your PIXMA MX922 is connected to your wireless network.
Once your PIXMA MX922 is connected to your Wi-Fi, please follow these steps to install it on your Mac:
1. Click on the Apple in the upper left corner and then System Preferences.
2. In System Preferences, click on Printers & Scanners.
3. Click the [+] at the bottom of the left side and the Add Printer window will appear.
4. In the Add Printer window, there should be 2 MX920s that appear, one Bonjour Multifunction and one that has IJ Network listed next to it. Click once on the listing with IJ Network and then click the Add button in the lower right.
Does your printer appear in the Printers list with a green dot and "Idle" ?
If so, please attempt to print.

My MacBookPro 10.15.7 now prints, wirelessly, but will not scan! The screen on the printer only shows “PC.” How do I get the Pixma mx922 to scan?
