G6020 page feed goes clack,clack,clack,clack

My line feed makes noise.  Every 5 or 6 lines of print, it goes "clack" when it feeds a line up to print on the current page.  And in between pages, the noise is four clacks, "clack,clack,clack,clack" as it ejects the current sheet. Always the same pattern, no variations

What could i have done wrong or forgotten to do on installation?

Take a look at this link: https://canon.us/g6020setup there's a little "video" that shows you where all of the packing tape and other bits and bobs are that need to be removed. It'll also walk you through the rest of the steps and verify everything is good to go. It'll even reinstall the software for you (or install it for the first time).
