I have a Maxify MB5420 purchased in October 2016.  I put a non-Canon brand of print cartridge into the machine.  From the print out, I could tell the cartridge leaked. I have received an error B504, which is not in the manual. It just says call service.

I would like to just manually move the cartridge sled and take out the bad cartridge, but the manual says it "could" damage the printer.  Can I do this and clean it up?
