Out of the blue, my MX472 has started sucking in the paper about halfway and then starts printing which then, of course, cuts off at the bottom of the page. I have followed instructions for realignment thinking that would've worked but nope. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. I will share that I'm pretty much computer illiterate so layman's language would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your contribution to the Canon Forum. To start troubleshooting, I recommend that you use the printer to make a copy. You can follow these steps:
If you notice the same issue (page feeds halfway before printing starts) when you use the printer to make a copy, then there is likely a mechanical issue with the printer. You can try following the instructions mentioned in the following article:
https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART143651
Should the problem persist, we recommend replacing the unit. If the printer’s one-year warranty has expired and you did not purchase a warranty extension, you do qualify for our Canon Upgrade Program. This program allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a new or refurbished product that uses Canon’s newest technologies, including such features as built-in WiFi, Airprint and Cloud Print, carries a one year limited manufacturer’s warranty, and to help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free ground shipping.
To take advantage of this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. (Eastern Time), Monday through Saturday. Let them know you have been working with chat support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.
If the copy comes out okay, there may be a setting issue at the computer. Please check the print settings and make sure that the correct paper size is being selected. If the paper size is correct, I recommend that you reinstall the MX470 series MP Drivers. The latest version of the MP Drivers (24.49 MB in size) can be downloaded from the following website.
