I used to have dpp 4.6.3 installed and working. Today when I tried to use it, the program did start but after a few seconds I would get a message telling me that dpp has stopped working.
I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled dpp 4.7.1 but the problem persists.
What should I do? Is there any reasonable way to access a log file or something?
Thanks

Does it do that while it's trying to set up the initial thumbnail display? And does that display include JPEGs. or is it just RAW files?

Yes, that was right at the beginning, but after it created the thumbnails for the starting directory. I don't think that it had anything to do with JPEG because even after removing all images from the directory the problem was still there.
I did manage to resolve the issue:
* uninstalled all canon software (dpp, EOS utilities, etc.)
* used regedit to delete all registry entries related to Canon, dpp and cr2
* rebooted
* reinstalled dpp 4.7.1
I guess that one of the Canon software created a rogue register entry that caused chaos.
