Which software to edit raw files R7

dcbirder

I recently got an R7, my first Canon camera. I’ve been shooting jpg but am interested in trying raw format. Can anyone recommend software to edit them? I have an iPhone. Might get iPad if that would be better for editing? Preferably software is not a subscription. One time purchase ok. I photograph birds as a hobby. Thanks for any advice from community.

Canon has an iOS software tool called DPP Express. Available via the App Store on iPad or iPhone. It does cost 99 cents/month, but you can cancel/renew at any time in one month blocks.

Affinity Photo is a one time purchase for iPad.

There are also several iPad apps you could look into.

Canon offers its Digital Photo Professional software free of charge..  But, it is designed to run on a computer, not a mobile device.  You would need a Mac or a PC.  I recommend a PC with an Intel chipset.

Photoshop (with RAW editing capabiity) runs on iPad (though not all iPad models, so check the requirements).   All Adobe software is now subscription based.  The Photographer's subscription plan if still avail for new users is only USD 9.99 per month and includes both Photoshop and Lightroom.

For Macintosh computers, Photoshop and Lightroom are also available.  Strongly recommend an Apple Silicon based Mac and Intel-based ones are on their way out.  Canon's DPP also available for free.

For PC computers, Canon's DPP available for free.  Photoshop and Lightroom also available for a subscription.
