Using a color card with DPP4

apwebb

Hi

In the past I've created a camera colour profile with Adobe DNG Profile Editor and a color card to use with Lightroom. I'm experimenting using DPP4 instead for RAW processing.

Can I use a photo of my color card to create a custom color profile ?

Thanks

Andy

I do not see why not.  You could create a “camera profile” recipe.

Except, I do not think it will be straight forward and simple endeavor.  First and foremost, you will need a color calibrated monitor.  Without that, you will be shooting from the hip.

It also sounds like it will be a meticulous task to complete.  Not unless there is some automated ay to create the “custom camera” recipe for DPP, I would stick to LR and the third party automated camera profile apps.  All of my cameras produce nearly identical colors.

Practically speaking - no.

it would be a laborious task, but you could use the free Canon Picture Style Editor and keep tweaking sliders to get your image to match the color checker squares.

But, if that degree of accuracy is important to you then I agree with wadizzle that you should be using Lightroom.

Absolutely and it will need to be calibrated to your printer or print service. Otherwise there is no good reason to do it.

I retired from Hallmark Cards in KC. We calibrated everything, I mean.  Everything in the production line needs to be the same or it doesn't mean a thing. It is a daunting task. We only used PS/LR but I suspect DPP4 can as well but I have not tried.
