Updating EOS R50 firmware

CodeManDeluxe

When trying to update the firmware on this EOS R50 with the firmware on the memory card the camera tells me this.

Update camera firmware
Current firmware version is
1.0.0.
Update firmware

After clicking OK it tells me this.

Update file cannot be found
Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again

When I do the update procedure with a memory card that doesn't have any firmware files on it, I'm told this.

Memory card containing firmware is required to update

After clicking OK it just redirects me to the previous screen.

Seems like it knows when a memory card containing firmware is inserted in the camera. The firmware I've tried using was eosr-180 & eosr-170

Thanks.

Greetings,

I'm not aware of any firmware updates for the R50.

Where are you seeing these files and where are you downloading them from?

After reading "I'm not aware of any firmware updates for the R50" and going back to the support page to looking to answer your question. I learned that I was trying to use EOS R firmware not realizing that it was not specific to this camera. Thanks for helping me with this.

I'm not sure what "eosr-180 & eosr-170" are. Anyway, I didn't find a firmware update for the R50 on it's support page. That's not to say one isn't out there, but it would be 1.1 or 1.0.1 or some such. The R50 was just released in March of 2023.

"eosr-180 & eosr-170" is the actual file names to the firmware that I was trying to use. I didn't realize that the camera was so new thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Greetings ,

Good afternoon and no worries.  Fortunately, Canon cameras do not allow you to use incorrect firmware across different models.  Enjoy the R50.
