Questions on focus point squares in DPP

• Sometimes when the focus point is very sharp and then I switch to show only points in focus there is no square. 
• Sometimes when the focus point is very sharp and then I switch to show only point in focus, the focus square is still black.

Welcome to the Canon Community. 

The AF point display that you see in DPP should be identical to what you see during Playback Mode on your camera.  I recommend that you download the User Guide for your camera for explicit details.

Remember, the camera uses one and only one AF point to lock focus.

The camera and DPP will only display available AF points, which does not necessarily mean those are the active AF points that the user has currently selected.  These are displayed as black squares.

The camera and DPP will display AF points that have the potential to lock focus as red squares.  Depending upon your selected AF mode, AF point selection, and your subject, you may see one or more red AF points.  Multiple AF points may appear because these areas of our subject are within the DOF of acceptable focus.

[BACK BUTTON FOCUS] Using this feature can confuse matters.  Under the right set of operating conditions you can capture a perfectly sharp photo, yet neither the camera or DPP will display any AF points, neither red or black.

Here’s what/. The camera and DPP will only show the active AF points at the moment when the shutter was fired.  If the camera operator stops pressing BBF, then this will disable the AF system.  If the shutter is fired at this moment, then no AF points will be displayed.  Test this behavior by photographing still subjects.
