Am I the only one or do any of you have the same problems using canon's remote live shooting mode using their camera connect app on ipad. It is slow and prone to crashing or freezing.
I finally figured out that you can do a USB connection to your camera using the camera connect but that too is horrible! Get 10 minutes of good use and then freezes. Quick restart of the app fixes it but why can't it be smooth. Why does it have to be a phone or ipad?
Anyway I'm reaching out to Canon and I got to let them know what would be a nice product to have.
An automated tripod head with pan tilt. Integrated into a physical remote controller that features a 6 inch screen. The whole thing integrated into the camera where the displays touch screen can be used to change any setting you want on the camera, touch to focus, record etc. Pan and tilt to any position you want. I want a physical analog style remote, where it's not just a button but how far you push a stick making the head move slow and smooth vs fast.
If Canon doesn't make this fully integrated remote solution then it's going to lose out to DJI. I just want to put my pan tilt head on my tripod with my camera on it and everything controlled by a single remote with a screen. No more relying on apps that are too annoying to connect and control. I'll put the setup in the field and go sit in the shade away from the camera and control everything from where I'm sitting.
My current solution is the PT5000 pan tilt head I found on amazon, but I'm willing to pay extra to be able to just have a fully integrated system.
Please make it happen soon.

I just figured out you can use iphone as a camera monitor for my R6 mark II via USBC cable and am equally dissapointed as you... Firstly great news because I can finally see what's on the display in the bright sun, but the Canon Camera App is horrible, keep freezing after few minutes of use and you need to restart the app and the camera which ruins the whole experinece. Also there's barely any display tools available, no guidelines, grid, level indicator, histagram and most importantly no false color. I'd much rather prefer if the app simply mirrored what's displayed on the camera display, but if not Canon please give us a proper app that actually works and has more available tools because the current Canon Camera app is miles behind competitors.

Does your mobile device have phone service?
In my experience the app appears to freeze because the mobile device dropped the wireless connection to the camera’s hotspot. It dropped the camera wireless connection in search of the Internet connection through the phone service provider.
My mobile phone tends to drop the camera connection when I use the camera hotspot.
My tablet without phone service has never dropped. Both tablet and camera connect to a wireless LAN. When connect the phone and camera using the LAN, it never drops.
My phone switches between the LAN and phone service provider whenever it feels like it. It’s not reliable. The next time the appears to freeze, check the wireless connection. You will most likely see the connection to the camera has been disconnected.

I actually use a straight usb connection. The app just disconnects randomly. I tried this after wifi connection so eitherway the problem occurs. Thing is the mac version of remote live shooting works great but the app versions for iphone or tablet just isn’t reliable. I wish canon just allowed you to connect and use your screen the same way you would be using the built in screen. With all the touch functionalities.

USB? The Canon Connect app is/ was intended for wireless communication with smart devices. If you want or need help with a USB connection, then I suggest that you contact Canon Support directly. I don’t know anything about USB connection to a smart device.

No it’s not, there’s wifi, bluetooth and usb connection options. Wifi is completely unusable for remote filming, the lag is too big and fps are terribly low. In the age of Thunderbolt 5 there’s really no excuse not to have the ability to output high resolution high fps image over usbc.

Try the app Shutter or Cascable both are stable and much better than the canon app, shutter has higher fps but lower quality overall, cascable the opposite, better looking feed but lower fps. still I’m able to work with it on the shoots that don’t have super fast pace subjects, if there’s a lot of fast movement though its just not smooth enough

Nothing to do with that since I’m using usbc connection- it’s just Iphone app itself is glitchy AF

Also with Shutter you can use touch to focus, but the app isn’t free though- you got a free trial to test it out
