EOS R6 Mark II - camera was disconnected during downloading in EOS Utility

Just an fyi, I am new here and I am also having the exact same problem as listed above. I have the Canon R6 EOS mark ii and using windows 11.  The EOS pairing software keeps crashing. Every time I pull it up to transfer & download my pics from camera to computer, it stays up a couple of mins and starts the transfer and then all of a sudden it pops up a message that says "The camera was disconnected during downloading. Some images have not been downloaded. Please download the images again."  So basically it ends up only transferring just a few pics and then crashes. I have tried using usb port to transfer and I have also tried via wifi.

I got an external card reader for Compact Flash II for my R5 and use one for SD cards on my other computer, which does not have one built-in. This solves the entire problem. I never found any way to get around this, even connecting to a Thunderbolt 4 port.

Still need to upgrade from Win 10-64 myself but as a general rule, I never use the EOS Utility for downloads.  I've used it once or twice to preview the images, but it's always seemed like a lot of stress to put on the camera's card reading function to rapidly preview images while going over a wire like that.

Once you've plugged in your card, you can see the list of files in Windows Explorer and that's enough to download as needed.  Or download a whole folder and look through it on the computer if you prefer that.  Use DPP4 or (photo executive) to flip through things directly in Windows. Come to think of it, the  reason I haven't use EOS Utility much is because it's so easy to see things in DPP4.  If you're having trouble remembering what pictures you took when, and need images to help remember, the "review-on-PC" method is good, but it also helps to take advantage of Canon's folder building options to add and custom-name a folder on your camera (it's in the yellow menu).  If you shoot hundreds/thousands of images per event, it also doesn't hurt to get in the habit of logging your range of shots for an event (with dates) on a spreadsheet.

One caution: DPP4 can be great in it's secondary role as a file viewer, because DPP4 links itself directly to Windows, but it can get overwhelmed sometimes when you have tens maybe hundreds .. of thousands of files.  In those cases, if you've really overloaded that drive, it may need to stop every couple of weeks or so to sit and retrace all of the assets it sees in Windows.  If you store 50,000 or so on a separate attached drive you won't run into this but it's good to know.  Rather than building catalogs, and custom storage locations, Canon has elected to connect DPP4 directly to the Windows file management system, which is usually a very good thing as long as Windows knows that CR3 = DPP4 and as long as you somewhat manage the masses of files.

... follow up note.  When I first copy files to a drive just checking the JPEGs or clicking through them on the Windows photo viewer isn't a bad way to go either.  It will read the JPEGs and ignore the CR3's.  A lot times that's actually my first step when copying and organizing.  Again, pretty simplistic approach, but sometimes the simple stuff is your friend.

Oh yeah.  Definitely get a card reader.  Get it with your first cards.  As of this writing, Prograde externals are the fastest readers I have found.  Direct link to camera as a standard, frequent practice = ??+!!...?
