EOS R Firmware update error

I've been trying to update my EOS R to the latest version (1.8) but the update process always stops at 81%. Any help please

I've done some shady stuff with my older camera and never bricked it, so I sincerely hope that's not the case! Usually, if something causes the firmware to fail, the camera reverts to the previously installed firmware.
