Hi All,
I got a used Canon camera and I am trying to find the best software to edit the images. I shoot in RAW.
The thing is... I still have use my Nikon camera and use NX Studio which is absolutely amazing... but.... this DPP seems to be absolute garbage in comparison. It keeps crashing, its so slow... and does not seem to have a built in image transfer manager like NX Studio.
Is there any other software thats official from Canon I can use or am I stuck with this DPP??? Am I missing something?

DPP is a resource hog, if you are running other applications or you Mac/PC isn't robust it will struggle. I was running an old Win10 PC and DPP was just frustrating and Adobe wasn't running great either. I recently upgraded my machine and DPP runs like a top, or as close to a top as the application can run, it definitely needs to be tuned up a bit but it's free and it does have a lot of useful functionality.
I run most PS and LRC so hopefully someone can help point you to a free application that may run better on your machine.

What feature are you missing?
I have not used NX Studio and cannot guess what you are trying to do.
In addition to Canon DPP software, I use rawtherapee, gimp, graphicsmagick, and exiftool free software.
Is your camera too new to be supported by rawtherapee?

Greetings,
I don't have any issues with DPP. It runs fine on Windows 10 and 11. Desktop and laptop. I use it on the road mostly. Is it always pepe and pretty quick. Any performance issues I've experienced are because my travel laptop only has 16 gigs of RAM. I have also used the EOS Utility in the past, but don't have a copy of it installed anywhere at the moment. The two together offer a free comprehensive solution as long as you are using Canon glass. (Which I am)
At home I use DxO PhotoLab Elite. It's not inexpensive but at least I don't have to subscribe to it. It supports third-party lenses if you own them too and has some of the best high ISO noise reduction available. I tried topaz once and found DxO's noise reduction to be marginally superior. We all have our preferences. I've been using DxO for so long now that I'm just familiar with it inside and out. It incorporates well into my workflow for images and I don't need anything more. DPP works well when I travel.
I hope you are able to solve the performance issues with your device.

Hi Everyone... thank you for all the replies. Perhaps I was too harsh in my message so bear with me please. My main frustration is just that its VERY slow when switching to different images and also it randomly crashes alot.
My PC is no slow poke either. Its a 8th gen i5 with 8GB RAM with a 512 NVME SSD. Its fast on all other applications including NX Studio.
Thank you also for the recomendations on other software... I will check it out.
