A year ago I bought a Canon 70D and installed the software.
A week ago I went to their website and downladed an update
for Digital Photo Professional (DPP) from 3.13.?? to 3.14.??.
Ran the update and the program stopped working. The error was
DPPDLL.dll not found. Following canon's support instructions
none of my Canon software, for either 320 Elph HS or 70D, work.
Nor can the original versions be re-installed. At the end of
this nightmare I was told to contact my computer manufacturer.
What does Dell have to do with Canon's software problems?
The details are at http://SwensonStudio.com/CanonSucks.htm
Even though the odds are small of this happening to you,
I don't think the risk is worth it for a minor point update.
Regardless, of what caused the problem if the update failed it
should have rolled-back the changes and left the old version.

You're doing something wrong. The Canon software isn't perfect, and some of it is annoyingly buggy; but recent versions have been remarkably free of installation issues. (The last one I can remember was when I first tried to install DPP on a Windows 8 tablet with no CD reader. Canon finally fixed that by publishing the installation CD on-line.)
I can't help noticing a couple of things: You don't seem to know exactly which versions of the software you've been trying to install; and though I slogged my way through the rant on your Web site, I couldn't figure out even what operating system you're using. Working with computers is an exacting process, and you're unlikely to get far if you're not sure of what you're trying to do.
Thousands of users have installed the Canon software, and the overwhelming majority aren't seeing the issues you're seeing. If I had to venture a guess, it's that your operating system software is horribly out of rev; and if I were you, I'd start by getting it up to date before my next attempt at installing the Canon software.

Windows 7 Ultimate
Originally I was updating 3.13.20 to 3.14.15
when that failed I downloaded Solutions Disk 29.oa
after the saga unfolded Canon came out with a new release
so I went from nothing installed to 3.14.40 by
downloading and running Solutions Disk 29.1a
