Convert and Save on DPP 4.21.11 and 4.19.x does not work on Mac M2 with Sonoma

Hello,

I have many issues with DPP on Mac M2 with Sonoma. 

First the application would launch and crash every time. Through various searches I found out that it could be a permissions issue, so now I just launch it with root permissions. That helped me get past the launch problem. 

Now I am facing issues converting and saving the images. I tried multiple different things

- Gave Full Disk access to DPP

- Gave specific folder permissions to DPP

- Tried Batch save

- Tried different file names

I don't even see any errors thrown by DPP. It just sits there doing nothing. I even left it running all night. None of the above worked. While Convert and Save / Batch don't seem to do anything, I am able to save changes to Raw images, so I don't think it is a permissions issue.

Has anyone else faced this problem? How did you fix it?

It’s an odd message for the likely issue.

The app will not overwrite the file you’re editing. Save to a different folder or use a new file name.

That is what I have been doing, saving to a different folder. I even moved the destination folder to different folders on my Mac to see if that would help. No success.

Are the destination folders on the laptop? I cannot recall if DPP can save to network drives.  It should work fine for a USB drive. 

I suggest reaching out directly to Canon.

Maybe try updating the OS to Tahoe?  I really do not used DPP much, and can't tell you how it ran when I had Sonoma... but it works perfectly fine with Tahoe.

Yes the destination drive is on laptop.

MacBook Air M2 macOS Tacoma Full Disk Access authorized.

Are you working with Canon .CR2 or.CR3 files? Do they open OK with Apple Preview?

If so, may be a particular issue with your computer. Give Canon support a call at 1-800-OK-CANON.

Thanks John. I am working with .CR2 files. I upgraded to Tacoma, and have given Full Disk Access to DPP. I still have issues. BTW my DPP also crashes on launch. I was able to get around it by launching it with sudo privileges from my terminal. Wondering if that could be the main issue. How do you launch your DPP, and how did you get around the supposed permissions issue?

I just double-click the icon, like any other application. Only permission I have had to apply was Full Disk Access.

Sounds like you know your way around macOS. Maybe delete all traces of DPP. I believe various bits and pieces are stored in different folders. Maybe one of the app cleaner apps from the App Store could help. Then try a clean install.
