Canon Connect app GPS update rate?

Hi All,

Does anyone know the Canon Connect app GPS update rate? In other words, how often does it update the camera with the location your shooting from? I'm already aware that general GPS receivers update position once/second. I recently did a walking tour in wide open spaces ( so no obstructions), took 14 photos in different locations and the location of all the photographs was exactly the same.

Camera: R5 running firmware version 2.0.0

R5 showed Bluetooth and GPS active

Canon Connect app version 3.2.0.20, build 1391,app shows Status: Sending location info to camera, GPS via mobile: Available, Location information: Can be used

TIA

"There are long threads over at DP Review forum about this same issue with the new R5ii. "

Please provide a link to those threads. I searched for them to try and help those folks and couldn't find anything.

TIA

Here’s one. There are many others describing similar behavior.

Tbh I’ve given up on a fix now, I’m just disappointed the R6iii doesn’t have internal GPS. This behavior has been present through repeated updates of camera firmware and app. Canon is either unable to fix this feature or just doesn’t care enough about it to spend the time on it.

What are the power savings settings on your camera?

I’ve tried with everything disabled in the power saving menu. It makes no difference. Routinely I have auto power off set to 5 mins. Viewfinder 1 min. Everything else disabled. I don’t like the lcd screen dimming.
