I’m having the exact same problem. How did you fix it?

Hi Kwinten,
this is a "feature" of the Camera Connect app, that seems to have a builtin limitation of 10.000 pictures. I ran into the same problem from one day to the other and tried everything, different Android devoices, resetting WiFi, re-installing the app and upgrading the firmware. Finally, using a fresh SD card solved the problem and after reducing the number of pictures below above threshold, the old SD card also was recognized as well. Unfortunately, there is almost no documentation on this app available.

This was the solution! Thank you so much for posting it!
Suddenly got the "connection failed" error on my EOS M100 after taking pictures and was totally puzzled.
Saw this, had almost 10,000 pictures on the SD card/a few hundred or so less.
Tried deleting some of the pictures and started working immediately after that.
So this can happen even if you have less than ten thousands pics.

There is nothing wrong with Canon Connect. The problem is with the phone settings. You need to disable automatically connecting to Wi-Fi networks.
Mobile phones want to always be connected to the Internet, which your camera does not provide. The phone will connect to your camera. Your camera may go idle between shots and stop communicating. When the phone detects the Wi-Fi connection has gone idle, the phone will drop the camera connection and reconnect to your phone’s data network in search of the Internet,
As convenient as it may be, automatically connecting to Wi-Fi networks is a major security risk. Your phone can connect to anything without your knowledge when you are out in public. Disable this feature. You want the phone to ask before it switches Wi-Fi networks and tries to connect to a new one..
