Here is how Canon advertises the remote shooting feature of the Camera Connect app: "For shy wildlife, long exposure landscapes, a cheeky selfie or even vlogging, the remote control function adds new creative options to your photography and videos. Watch the Live View on your device and view from a distance while being able to adjust many of the camera settings."
My camera is on a tripod on my patio, focused on a bird feeder. I am inside my house ten feet away. (Yes, I have measured.) There is a glass door between me and the camera. When I activate the Camera Connect app for remote shooting, the app is entirely unreliable. Sometimes it freezes. Sometimes it disconnects. Sometimes it works as expected. There is no rhyme or reason as to why anything happens the way it does. The only remedy is for me to go outside and stand directly next to the camera; then, the app works flawlessly. Otherwise, when I move away to about the 7-10 foot range, the app becomes completely unreliable.
I have tried connecting the phone and the camera via Bluetooth. I have also tried connecting the phone directly to the camera via the camera's WiFi. Both of these options produce the same result. Both the app and the camera software are up-to-date.
How does Canon explain the impression given by their advertising as written above compared to the real-world result? What is the use of a "remote shooting" option when one has to stand immediately adjacent to the camera? In that case, I will just press the shutter myself. I own many Bluetooth and WiFi enabled devices (as I'm sure we all do). Many of them cost much, much less than a modern Canon camera, and yet their connectivity performs flawlessly. How does Canon explain this?

I looked at the idea of remote shooting but the instructions were beyond my old time comprehension. I did buy a cable remote to operate my T7 to shoot through a window at the hummingbird feeder. Good luck!

Greetings,
R5 C here. Using in conjunction with a Pixel 8. I don't have any issues using Canon Connect at 10 ft. I haven't tried to see what the maximum range is but It's definitely more than 10 ft. Is it possible you have some type of interference? This could be glass, stone, electrical, plumbing or heating ducts.
I'll test today and see if I can determine what my maximum range is, but I've not noticed any issues.
Suggestion:
Have you tried connecting your camera and mobile device to a Wi-Fi network as a test?

putnamm,
Another option is to try a different connecting app. I personally use one called Camera Connect and Control. At the time I got it, I was looking for a wired connection, and the Canon Camera Connect didn't offer that with Android devices at that time. This is a paid app you can get through the Google Play Store. They used to offer a three-day free trial period. I don't know if they still do that or not.
You didn't say what kind of phone you were trying to use with the Canon app.
Wireless connections can reach up to 300' outdoors and 150' indoors, unless, as Rick said, there are interferences.
