Does Canon DR-E6P DC Coupler charge battery during extended operation?

Does anyone know if the DR-E6P is enough to keep the battery charged during extended operation?  i.e. astrophotography applications.

The DR-E6P is a dummy battery and coupler.  It takes the place of your battery.  It does not charge anything.

My bad, I meant the PD-E2 adapter.  I've been trying to get the DR-E6P to work in my R5MK2 with No Joy.  Any advice would be appreciated.

What do you mean by won't work?  The PD-E2 is designed to power the R5 Mark II with a battery inserted.  It will not charge the battery unless the camera is turned off or is in auto sleep.

The overview for the PD-E2 is a little misleading.  

"The PD-E2 USB Power Adapter facilitates charging the battery while it is inside the camera and connects via a USB Type-C cable."....  The part about the camera needing to be OFF is not stated.

Thanks for the reply Rick.  Ok, so the PD-E2 only charges when the camera is off.  I was trying to get the DR-E6P to work in the camera.  I forgot that it's designed to work in the battery grip and not the camera directly.

The DR-E6P does work in the camera body.  😉

It's a dummy battery and can power the camera when connected to AC power.  

The PD-E2 is a PD power supply that connects to the cameras USB port.  It will power the camera with a battery installed. It can charge the battery if it's turned off or asleep.

I've not been able to do that without using the E6P in the battery grip for the R5MK2.  Without the battery grip (which has a slot for the power wire to pass through from the closed battery compartment) there is no way to close the battery compartment door that triggers the microswitch telling the camera the door is shut.  I've even tried physically triggering the microswitch with the E6P inserted into the compartment and it still doesn't work.  What am I missing?

The R5 Mark II requires a fully closed battery door to power on. Locate the small rubber "DC Coupler cord hole" on the camera body near the door hinge. Peel this back to route the DR-E6P cord, allowing the door to click shut.
