Hey everyone, I'm trying to rescue a tape from a vintage Canon ES900 8mm camcorder. The motor is straining, but I checked the clear window: the tape ribbon appears to be safely inside the shell and doesn't look tangled around the video heads.
Does anyone know how to manually unlatch this specific metal lid so it swings open, so I can retrieve the tape? I’ve tried gently lifting it, but it feels locked, and I don't want to force it and break the tape or the housing if I don't have to.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

A Google search found your Reddit post and two videos that might be helpful. Both solutions look quite involved and may require equipment and/or skills (power supplies and recognition of electronics) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04LiDAS-7yg
