Canon VIXIA HF R50 manual focus

I just bought a Canon VIXIA HF R50 and have 1 more week to evaluate if I want to return it for refund.  The salesperson said it has manual focus and manual exposure.  I've been reading the manual, but my camera doesn't show the (+-) icon or the M when I touch the movie camera icon.  Am I missing something?

Hello Magnolia,

The VIXIA HF R50 is definitely capable of manual focusing.  It only works in advanced shooting modes though, such as [SCN] [P] (AVCHD / MP4). 

So, put the camcorder in one of those two modes and then open the manual focus screen.  Touch [MF] and then touch and hold [landscape and portrait] to adjust.  You then touch [X] to lock the focus at the selected distance.
