When I try to download my video from the camera to my computer or a zip drive it takes over an hour for a 30 video.

How do I convert my video to MPEG?

If your computer has a zip drive, it sounds like its quite old, and possibly using USB 1.x which is very slow for large file transfers.

I am trying to save to a flash drive on my Windows XP Professional.

Dell Optiplex GX520

Have tried it on various Dell at school

What flash drive are you using?  Those can be notoriously slow also.
