Thanks for your repsonse. I am using remote scanner  as prescibed above. I have tried with the MF toolbox already open and also opening MF toolbox after setting the MF4770n in "SCAN-remote scanner" mode.  AP

BTW, my macbook air is running OS X 10.9.4. Thank you for your help in advance.

I am struggling with this as well. Any resolution?
