Unable to scan with LIDE 210-error message 2.249.1

When I try to scan a document, i get a message that scanner is in use Message #: 2.249.1This is an LIDE 210 for MAc.

I spent half a day trying to resolve this problem - what finally worked was to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall making sure that I had the correct OS. the problem only appeared when I updated to Maverick. Mary Lou
