Software won't recognize SX50 camera

I installed the software, and uninstalled and reinstalled but the software still does not recognize my camera. I know my computer does because it shows up in image capture. Help!
Memory Card error

I bought a 32 gb micro SDHC card. It is the same size as a regular SDHC Card. Is that why i am getting the error and can't use it?

it will not let me format in the camera. it is totally greyed out. i tried to put that card into a sony and it wouldn't accept it either

sorry, I am on an I Mac running the latest OS, which i believe is called Mavericks.
