Thanks, Rick. I’ve accepted this as a solution because that was one piece of it. Good starting point though.

I don’t know exactly but he did some of everything mentioned here (reinstalled Canon utilities, reprogrammed pathway). It took him about 20 minutes. I hope Apple gets on it from their side too, if there’s an issue. Thanks.

Yes, my experience was that it just affected scanning, and only when trying to scan from the printer (not using image capture app on MacBook).I finally gave up and called in a wonderful local tech guy who did all sorts of reprogramming and got it bac...

Thank you, I suspect this is the issue. But I'm not a techie, just a home user. How do I find and log into the remote UI? And how do I find the IP address of the printer (or do you mean of my MacBook, which I can find). Thanks.
