Computer cannot communicate with PIXMA TR8620a

This happened with my last printer. After a few years of use it suddenly decided it couldn't find the printer. I've tried to find a solution and vaguely recall that that was the death knell before. Any hope now? It's a TR8620a

"It" is computer. I changed nothing but suddenly the two couldn't communicate.
