I have an pixma ts3722 when will I know to replace the ink, and do I have to replace both at same time?

Just bought one as well and I have printed about 59 pages mostly black and the ink light is on. I am going to use the canon ink only and not the replacement ink, I've heard the replacement ink cartridge doesn't work well!
