Settings could be better, but I was in a busy place, hand held, with changing scenarios where I often lose the plot!

Spot meter and spot focus on the dark area of the lamp. Underexposed - 2 to darken the lamp shade and highlight the shadows.

I think the B&W does this photograph more justice. It's a great shot. I was drawn to the wheel on the left with the iron tyre coming off. Worth a shot on its own perhaps - but I am drawn to broken, rusty old things!

I guessed that was at the root of the issue. I've only recently been experimenting with spot metering to try and improve my B&W shooting, along with trying to operationalise my use of Ansel Adams zones with the exposure meter.

This was a big Steam train gathering with lots of men jostling each other with cameras hanging off their shoulders.
I can't imagine using a tripod in this scenario!
