I live in Arizona, so unfortunately every tape leaves residue. My apologies on the second point. Why not do this the right way, with mf and locking at infinity through the body?
That's really not ideal at all and honestly makes no sense because there are a lot of entirely encoding focus lenses that have no mechanical connection. On top of that, you're stressing the AF motor and also getting tape residue on the lens.... Ther...
I had the exact same issue with my RP. What I did was set it to manual focus in the body and focus to infinity manually. There's no physical infinity stop like there is on older lenses, but there's a software stop, at least on my RP.
