Pixma MX 490 & 492 printer component breaks resulting in paper jamming.

I have a PIXMA 490 & 492. Both suddenly started having paper jam issues (at differnt times). After opening the machines, I see that they both have plastic breaks in the exact spot with the same sheering of the plastic. Was there a product defect?
