What I want is to not epoxy the switch in AF mode. The 7D (and 5D III) have difficult non-replaceable focus screens so I want to guaranty AF mode.

40mm f/2.8 STM is very cheap and I think nicer than any of the 50mm for portraits.

F8 autofocus best try and no AF confirm chips required.
