Hi jblohowiak.

Ensure the printer is connected to the same network as the phone, and with sufficient signal strength, by printing the information page. Press the [ i ] button; on the pages that print out, you may verify the wifi network (SSID) to which the printer is connected, and the strength of the wifi signal between the printer and the router.  The Signal Strength should be at least 70%.  If the signal strength is at 100%, ensure the printer is at least 2 ft away from the router; if it's too close, the printer and router may be inteferering with each other when they try to communicate.

If the printer is on the same wifi network, with sufficient signal strength and distance, and your phone uses an Android OS, try using the Canon Print Service or MOPRIA Print Service, which will allow you to print from non-Canon apps using the Print or Share option. Both are available, free of charge, in the Google Play Store.

If using an iPhone, it will, if able to communicate with the printer through wifi, work through Apple's Airprint service.

Alternatively, you may try printing through the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.  This app is avaliable, free of charge, in both the Google Play Store and iOS App Store.

Regarding Canon Image Gateway, the service is scheduled to cease service by early April, 2020, and no further applications are being accepted.  It is being replaced by http://Image.Canon, scheduled to officially accept users by mid-April, 2020.
