I want to know if this can be done. I record a podcast with a Canon Vixia HF G70 camera. For the audio I have microphones connected to a Mackie Onyx 8 mixer. I connect the main output of the mixer (balanced XLR) with an XLR to 1/8" cable to the mic input terminal of the Canon Vixia HF G70 port on the camera. Audio in video recorded sounds good, but I need to keep levels on my audio mixer very low and I hear a hiss in the background on my recordings.
I had been searching for options on how to reduce the hiss, and came out with the option to install a passive Direct Box between the 1/4" unbalance output of the Mackie Onyx 8 mixer, and the Canon Vixia HF G70 camera input. I tried it, now the mixer can be set to decent levels (unitary), and hiss had drastically reduced.
I want to know if this is good, or I am doing it wrong. Direct Box I am using is a passive DBX 10.
