Young buck was at the bird feeder at my house in Norman, Oklahoma, United States just before sunset. That makes good lighting with the sun on his face and shadow behind. Since the camera is able to see less into shadow than a human eye, de-emphasizing the shadows slightly in the raw development software makes the background completely disappear in the photo. Raw development and cropping in DPP, EOS R5, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, F/5.6, ISO 320, 1/332 sec., 400mm, distance about 14 meters.
<Link removed per Forum Guidelines> has the portrait of the deer. This young buck thinks he owns the place. Yesterday evening, I went out on the front porch and sat in a chair with my camera. Young buck looks at me for a while and then proceeds to eat the rest of the bird seed before walking away. This morning he was standing next to my vegetable garden, so I step out the back door to warn him off. He stares at me for a while, then steps toward me and stomps his foot. He repeats this about 20 times. Since I am not so easily frightened away, eventually he browses on some bushes and slowly walks away. It ends in a truce instead of me being charged and hit with velvet antlers.

Excellent photo. That is at least a buck-and-a-half.
