They live in groups up to about 18, are hugely sociable and communicate via vocalizations and scent glands in their tails.

Absolutely! Very, very active. They are also quite dangerous - they can inflict a nasty wound with those teeth and claws. Their cousins, the Amazonian River Otter, will gang up on and intimidate the Kaiman, a type of alligator, if they come into their territory.
