It took this great blue heron about 10 minutes to swallow the catfish(?) it caught at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Los Angeles.
These birds are, effectively, apex predators in the sense that no other birds seem to challenge them (by comparison, I've seen pelicans steal ospreys catches quite a bit)heron_great-blue_sepulveda_25_10_12_L0A8486.jpg
