Here are a couple of examples:

Camera: Canon Rebel T6i

Shutter Speed: 1/40

Aperture: f/8

ISO: 200

Focal Length: 18mm

Lens: 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM

Camera: Canon Rebel T6i

Shutter Speed: 1/4000

Aperture: f/20

ISO: 100

Focal Length: 250mm

Lens: 55-250 f4-5.6 IS STM

Did you get to the OPTICS boat tour B&H sponsored when you were in NY?  Im hoping one of us did.....  Nice photo never the less.

I did not. i was working and not on my own.  It was a hectic week and I was dead tired when we were through.

well Im glad you got to go there at least. I have a friend in Ny that is sending me his old camera (for a small price) its a 7D, now going to need a longer lens (and bigger arms)

You may not need more FL.  300mm on the 7D will be pretty good.  Actually acting like a 480mm on my 1DX.  I shoot a lot of birds with only 300mm.  It is 300mm on my 1DX.  You are right, you need a better lens and I guess truth be known you never have enough FL.
