Some shots from my archives. I shot this sequence with an EOS 5D mark IV and EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6L IS USM II lens. This is a pair of Brown Thrashers that were nesting in our yard that year. They are normally reclusive, but will come out of cover for activities like this, normally in the morning or late evening. A lot of birders refer to this as "anting" because some birds are known to disturb ant mounds so the ants will spray them with formic acid, which helps rid the birds of parasites. But that isn't always the case, so sometimes a dust bath is just a dust bath to help clean their feathers of oils and parasites. The shadow is from my car.
I like the shots because they give a slight illusion of them being under water.
