Wood Duck

These ducks generally like habitat that is a bit out of the way, at least in our area. Since retirement, I haven't had a lot of opportunity to photograph them plus, although not a rare bird, habitat is dwindling. My wife and I visited a wildlife management area and they have a few Wood Duck nesting boxes that attract them. They are cavity nesters, so the boxes are helping to attract them to this lake. Not only are they handsome birds, but they are really interesting, I mean, ducks that nest in tree cavities? 🙂 Shot with the EOS R5 and RF 100-500mm L.
