If you live in a rural or parklike area chances are good that there are squirrels nearby. Because they love bird feeders it makes them the perfect subjects for a rainy or snowy day. Rather than chase them away set up squirrel feeder in your yard! Place it away from your bird feeders and close to an open window you that you can photograph from. Stand it up six to ten feet out from your window (Depending upon your lens) Put the height of the feeder so it is level with the window so you are photographing from and in good light.You can bait the feeder with dried corn or unsalted dried peanuts and black sunflower seeds. Cover the window on the inside with an old blanket or even some cardboard with a hole in it to poke your lens out of. Let the squirrel use your feeder for a few day before photographing them. This Western Gray Squirrel was photographed on a rainy day from my back bedroom window. I used a Canon R6MKII camera with a Canon RF 100-500mm lens. ISO was fairly high at 6400 due to the overcast. F 8.0 to blur out the background. i had a shutter speed of 1/125th of a sec. Enjoy the rain or snow and stay dry and warm inside with some squirrel photography.
