Shot with a Canon R8 and 45mm f1.2 RF lens.
Whenever I have taught photography, the first several lessons are about composition. And instead of imposing rigid rules for composition, I will send students out on a very simple exercise to go see what they can find and then to describe in detail why the resulting compositions pleased them.
They have to develop their own vision for composition. The supposed rules can then either be applied or creatively misapplied for creative effect,
Sometimes, when I get into the feeling of "I can't find anything good to shoot", I will go out and just take pictures and see what I discover. These are some shots from yesterday to break out of the doldrums and into a new year. After weeks of tule fog, the sun came out, so I went a shot a few things without overthinking. And just for giggles I color skewed two of them.
These will not challenge the legacy of Ansel Adams, but getting out set me in motion and that is how great opportunities turn into photographs. So go out. Don't overthink. Just shoot. See what you get.
Sometimes when we do not allow ourselves the freedom to just shoot pictures, we squander opportunities while we try to make every shot an epic photograph.
So, Happy New Year; set yourself free.
